Salman celebrating birthday with family

Salman Khan who was all set to celebrate his birthday in Dubai has had a slight change in plans.

While the dabangg man will be in the UAE to bring in the New Year alongside his archrival Shah Rukh Khan, due to his family's concerns the actor will now celebrate his birthday in Panvel.

A friend of the actor confirmed and added, "We are now going to Panvel on Monday to bring in Salman's birthday on Tuesday. After that, we will head to Dubai for New Year."

"Health wise it wasn't a great year for Salman. So everybody feels that he should spend time with family on his birthday," added the friend.

After spending his birthday with his family, Salman's New Year face off with Shah Rukh might also be easier. Both the Khans will be throwing their own party in Dubai.

While Salman's guest list includes his parents, brothers, sisters and close friends Sajid Nadiadwala, Bhushan Kumar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Shirish Kunder, Shah Rukh's party will see Karan Johar, Anubhav Sinha, Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal.

Indian Kabaddi team ill treated

Ludhiana: Hours after they won the World Cup with a thumping victory over England, Indian women Kabaddi players were seen on the streets waiting for auto rickshaw to reach home. The players who made the country proud on Sunday were badly treated by their team management. The players were not provided conveyance to reach their home.

Moreover, the game officials didn’t even pay the hotel bills on time leading to the embarrassment of the players. While checking out, the players were stopped by the hotel staff for non payment of their food bills.

The arrangements for the stay of players were made in Park Plaza hotel. According to the hotel officials, food bill worth Rs 22,000 was due on the players which the game officials hadn’t paid. The players were made to wait at the hotel reception for two hours and were allowed to check out only after their bills were paid.

Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh said the arrangements for the kabaddi players were made by the organising committee. “We fulfilled all the demands made by the team management. If the players faced an inconvenient it’s the responsibility of the team management,” said Singh.

After checking out, the players, with prize in their hand, were seen standing on the streets waiting for public transport. Most of them went their home walking.

Players told that they had to spend the entire week in one pair of clothes as their luggage got burnt in the bus accident ahead of the semi0final clash. The team management didn’t arrange for fresh pair of clothes for the players.

New Delhi: He knocked them over, one after the other, on Thursday. West Indies failed to withstand the storm Virender Sehwag's willow unleashed, sending records tumbling with a glut of runs that saw only the second double-hundred in ODI history being scored.
Sehwag's 219 – which came in just 149 balls with a world record-equalling 25 fours and from seven towering sixes – crushed a number of records as the milestones arrived and passed, turning the innings into a joyride for the 40,000-strong crowd.
This remarkable achievement gives Sehwag the unique distinction of being India's top scorer in both Tests and ODIs. He had scored 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.
Unlike Tendulkar in Gwalior, Sehwag wasn't running out of time as he raced towards 200 in Indore. He got there in the 44th over and had made 219 off 149 balls by the time he was dismissed in the 47th. And in one of cricket's stranger coincidences, both ODI double-centuries were scored in the same Indian state - Madhya Pradesh - at venues less than 500 kilometres apart.

Shruti Hassan Unseen

Shruti Haasan is an Indian actress, singer and music composer who has worked in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films. Her parents are noted actors, Kamal Haasan and Sarika. As a child artiste, she sang in films and appeared in a guest role, before making her adult acting debut in the 2009 action drama, Luck. She later went on to win critical acclaim for her role in the Walt Disneyfantasy film, Anaganaga O Dheerudu, Oh My Friend and 7aum Arivu alongside Suriya.

Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan was born to actors Kamal Hassan and Sarika in Chennai, India. Her younger sister Akshara represents India nationally for Ballroom Latin dancing. Haasan studied at Abacus in Chennai and moved to Mumbai to study psychology at St. Andrew’s College.

Haasan shifted her focus to cinema and music, and eventually travelled to the USA to continue to learn music at the Musicians Institute in California, before returning to Chennai. She has also had rhinoplasty to alter the appearance of her nose early in her film career.

Bollywood Legend passed away

London: Legendary Bollywood actor Dev Anand once said that a song from his film Hum Dono gave him the philosophy he has lived by all his life. As the last strains of Mai zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya fade, they leave a void in memory no other star of the Indian film industry can ever fill in grace, compassion and style.

Dev Anand, or Dev Saab as he was fondly called, died in his sleep late Saturday at the Washington Mayfair Hotel in London where he was staying. He was 88. His son Sunil Anand had accompanied him to London for treatment. The hotel staff called an ambulance after family alerted them, but he died before he could be taken to hospital.

In his life he has fulfilled several roles; that of actor Guru Dutt's closest friend, Taxi Driverstar Kalpana Kartik's husband and mentor for numerous youngsters in the film industry. In his death, Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand is remembered by co-stars and fans as "a man who never said never" and worked till his last breath.

He was born in Gurdaspur of undivided Punjab to a well-to-do advocate Pishorimal Anand on September 26, 1923, Anand graduated in English literature from the Government Law College in Lahore. Even at the height of stardom, Anand never forgot how he started his career - as a military censor office at Churchgate at a salary of Rs 160 – that helped him remain grounded.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Speaker Meira Kumar joined millions to condole Dev Anand's death. "Dev Anand was a great artiste who entertained generations of cinema lovers over five decades. He was an embodiment of a life long passion for acting and film making. I join millions of his fans in mourning his death," Singh said in his statement.

A condolence message from film star Rajinikant's family said "Devanandji...we had the proud priviledge of taking your blessings, shaking hands and giving you a hug as we humbly offered "The Legend" award to you two years ago...all of us here who were part of that evening are so moved today..We salute your zest for life and your spirited energy for work...you will always stay in our hearts. We love you so so much and we will miss you too too much...our heartfelt condolences to all family members."

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said "I was deeply shocked and grieved to learn of the passing away of the legendary 88 year old cine actor Shri Dev Anand. In his passing away, India has lost a great actor, an illustrious son and a true patriot. His demise is an irreparable loss to the film industry as well as to the nation. Shri Dev Anand's death has left a void that can never be filled. I wish to convey my deepest condolences to his family and pray that the almighty may give them the strength to bear this great losswith courage and fortitude."

Anand will be remembered for his boyish charm, his trademark hairstyle, his sloping walk, rapid dialogue delivery and most of all for his indomitable spirit that serves as an inspiration for generations of actors after his time. Bollywood has truly lost one of its favourite sons.

Yuvraj Singh speedy recovery

India’s Yuvraj Singh is being treated for a lung tumour which first affected him during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The tumour, which is the size of a “golf ball”, is non-malignant.

“During the World Cup, Yuvraj found himself constantly troubled by bouts of coughing and vomiting. He ignored the problem, assuming it was due to stress and didn’t want anything to distract him during the course of such an important tournament,” said Yuvraj’s mother Shabnam Singh.

“The initial reports suggested that Yuvraj had what in medical terms, is called an abnormal tumour called lymphoma over his left lung. The danger was, we were told, that it could be malignant.”

“When he returned from England… detailed scanning, and biopsy reports indicated that the tumour is non-malignant and non-threatening and can be treated through proper medication and therapy. In medical terms, Yuvraj is now in a much better state and on his way to a full recovery.”

Yuvraj tweeted that he would be returning sooner rather than later.

“Overwhelmed with ur love n support. I am absolutely fine, just need to get match fitness and training will be back soon,” Yuvraj tweeted.

Kanimozhi finally gets bail - 2G case

In a huge relief to the second batch of accused in the 2G case, DMK MP Kanimozhi and four others were today granted bail by the Delhi High Court. They will however have to wait one more night behind the bars as release warrants could not be issued by the special judge due to procedural delay.

The Rajya Sabha MP, who is the daughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, was arrested in connection with the 2G scam on May 20.

Granting the bail, the court said it cannot do "hair splitting" of the Supreme Court verdict omitting the offence of criminal breach of trust against all the accused, which entails life imprisonment as the maximum punishment.

In its 39-page judgement, the court observed that Kanimozhi and the other four are on a "better footing" and deserved the benefit on the ground of "parity".

Relying on last week's Supreme Court verdict which said "bail is rule and jail is exception, the court treated Kanimozhi, who is in prison since May 20, on par with five corporate executives, granted bail on Thursday last.

"The High Court cannot while considering the bail applications of present accused do hair splitting of the order of the Supreme Court and make out a distinction when there is none so as to deny the benefit of said order to petitioners by saying that they are charged for offence of conspiracy read with offence of criminal breach of trust which carries the
life imprisonment," Justice V K Shali said.

43-year-old Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, and others will have to spend one more night in Tihar jail as their release warrants could not be issued by Special CBI Judge O P Saini due to procedural delay.

Joginder Sharma out of danger

India's T20 World Cup star Joginder Sharma had a road accident on Thursday but his condition is now stable, Anirudh Chaudhry, the Haryana Cricket Association secretary, said.

Joginder suffered a head injury and had to undergo a surgery. Anirudh Chaudhry said that Joginder was out of danger. "He [Joginder] is out of danger and our [HCA's] physio met him and spoke to him post-surgery," he tweeted.

Sharma and his friend, a Haryana Cricket Association official, were near a Metro station in Sector 21 when a vehicle ferrying BPO employees, which was ahead of them, suddenly applied brakes at a speed breaker, police said.

The cricketer's car rammed into the BPO vehicle, injuring him and his associate. The accident occurred around 4 pm and the BPO vehicle escaped after the crash, police said.

Mullaperiyar dam latest news

Mullaperiyar Dam is constructed over the headwaters of the Periyar River in 1895 Kerala, India. The Periyar National Park,
Thekkady is located around the Periyar reservoir formed by the backwaters of this dam. It is operated by the Government of Tamil Nadu according to a 999-year lease agreement made during erstwhile British colonial rule.

The dam’s reservoir level is the bone of contention between the Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments. Since 1970, Kerala has argued that the dam having outlived its life of 50 years is unsafe to maintain water at 46.3 metres—the full reservoir level—and it should be restricted to 41.45 metres. In 1979, the Central Water Commission (cwc)— the premier government agency dealing with dam safety—was asked to look into the matter; it suggested reduction of water level to 41.45 metres as an emergency measure along with other measures to strengthen the dam. Tamil Nadu agreed to this limit. Another committee headed by the then cwc chairperson B K Mittal was appointed in 2001 to look into the matter. It stated that the reservoir level be raised to 43.28 metres, after the strengthening measures were implemented. This was to be on an interim basis, and later reservoir levels could go up to the original level of 46.3 metres.

The government of Tamil Nadu has proposed an increase in the storage level of the dam from the currently maintained 136 feet to 142 feet. The Kerala government has opposed this move, citing safety concerns for the more than hundred year old bridge and especially for the thickly populated districts downstream.

Kerala claims that the agreement was forced on the then princely State of Travancore presently, part of Kerala, but the pact was validated yet again in 1970 by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been arguing about the Mullaperiyar dam built under a co-signed agreement in 1886 between the Maharaja of Travancore and the British authorities. The dam, which is located in the Idukki district of Kerala , serves the districts of Tamil Nadu which in recent years, has made demands that the storage capacity of the dam be increased from 136 feet (41.5 m) to 142 feet (43 m) to meet the rising demand of water needed for irrigation. However, Kerala is asking for the construction of a new dam saying that the existing structure had outlived its safety and longevity. Tamil Nadu, insists that raising water levels in Mullaperiyar’s reservoir is necessary to irrigate large tracts in the state.

In 1998, all Mullaperiyar-related cases were transferred to the Supreme Court which, in its order of February 2006, observed that the dispute is not a ‘water dispute’. It allowed raising the reservoir level to 43.28 metres and directed Tamil Nadu to carry out the strengthening measures suggested by cwc, and restrained Kerala from causing any obstruction.

In March 2006 Kerala’s Legislative Assembly passed the Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation Amendment Act, 2006. The amendment empowered Kerala’s Dam Safety Authority (kdsa)— a body mandated in 2003 by the original Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation Act—to evaluate safety of all dams in the state. It also has the power to advise the government to suspend the functioning or to decommission a dam if public safety demanded. Twenty two dams constructed during 1895-1963 including the Mullaperiyar dam were brought under kdsa’s jurisdiction. 41.45 metres was fixed as safe height for Mullaperiyar’s reservoir. Tamil Nadu took the matter back to the Supreme Court. It filed a petition on March 31, 2006 to declare the Kerala act as unconstitutional.

In July 2009, the Kerala government has claimed that with the building of a new dam, 1,300 feet downstream of the present Mullaperiyar reservoir, the safety of the people of Kerala can be a assured from the existing high-risk structure, which can fail at any time , endangering lives, according to news sources.

A detailed report of this issue had been presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking sanction for decommissioning of the existing dam and building a new one in its place.

In October 2009, the Chief Minister of Kerala V.S. Achuthanandan requested Tamil Nadu to be in agreement with its demand for a new dam at Mullaperiyar as the present one had become obsolete. According to news sources, he supported his stand by claiming that a recent study by IIT, Roorkee had discovered that the dam would collapse if at any time an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale happened and that nearly forty lakh people who were fearfully anticipating this have to be reassured by allowing the new dam to be built.

But the beginning of 2010 saw Tamil Nadu once again rejecting the idea of constructing the new dam over the Periyar River. Kerala though seemed sure that it has every reason to be successful in its demand for a new dam because in 1979 the proposal had been cleared for approval by the Centre. This, according to them was agreed upon by Tamil Nadu which they claim took a step back later.

In Feb 2010, the Chief Minister of Kerala applauded the Supreme Court ruling demanding a review of the safety aspect of the Mullaperiyar. The apex court appointed a senior committee to study the safety of the dam, discuss increasing its water level above 136 feet and evaluate Kerala’s demand for a new dam. The Supreme Court appointed former chief justice of India A.S. Anand as the chairperson of a techno-legal panel formed to examine the strength and capacity of the more than a century old Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala.

In March 2010, according to news sources , Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said that Tamil Nadu would never give up its rights over the Mullaperiyar dam since that would create problems for farmers in that area.

People in Kerala feel that the 1886 deed should not be continued since it was forced upon the Travancore ruler. In 1970, Kerala did revise the original deed and got fishing rights. It also increased the rent to Rs 30 an acre (0.4 ha) from Rs 5, but water remained free for Tamil Nadu.

People in Tamil Nadu argue that Kerala is eyeing extra water from the Mullaperiyar reservoir to generate electricity. Power generation at the Idukki reservoir, downstream of the Mullaperiyar dam will come to a halt if the reservoir level is increased from 41.45 metres to 46.3 metres, Sadasivan points out. The Kerala government, however, maintains that the Idukki project was designed after discounting the 46.3 metres water storage in the Mullaperiyar dam.

Farmers in Tamil Nadu maintain that water rights have already been established during the past century and cannot be reverted. The Kerala government, however, argues that the gross area irrigated by the Mullaperiyar reservoir actually increased from 24,280 ha in 1896 to 69,200 ha in 1970-71 (when the water level was 46.3 metres) to 92,670 ha in 1994-95 (when water level was reduced to 41.45 metres). But Tamil Nadu claims that this is due to the modernisation of Periyar-Vaigai project, which reduced seepage losses by 6.7 thousand million cubic feet.

In April 2010, according to news sources, Chief Minister of Kerala V.S. Achuthanandan has urged the Centre to look into the Mullaperiyar dam issue as directed by the Supreme Court immediately. News sources said he had concerns about the delay in constituting the committee for looking into the Mullaperiyar dam issue in an official letter to the Prime minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh. He said that the Centre’s delay in the committee constitution would undermine the essence of the Supreme Court’s directive.

A single track from Aishwarya Dhanush's debut movie 3 was launched on 16th nov. The number 'Why this kolaveri di...' was released at Express Avenue.

The audio launch function was organised by a FM radio channel and it was attended by Dhanush with his wife Aishwarya, his co-star of 3, Shruti Hassan and others. Anirudh compositional music is written by the actor himself.

Forthcoming Tamil movie 3 has six songs, which are composed by Anirudh. While Dhanush has penned the lyrics for five tracks, Aishwarya has written one song. Sony Music has acquired the audio rights of the upcoming movie.

Aishwarya Dhanush's debut movie 3 was announced with Dhanush and Shruti Hassan in the leads but soon the 7aam Arivu actress opted out of the forthcoming movie citing date issues. However, the filmmaker replaced her with Amala Paul and surprisingly dropped her from the Tamil film after the daughter of Kamal Hassan returned to the movie, as her Telugu project was delayed.

Later, Aishwarya Dhanush claimed that Amala Paul walked out of the project due to date issues. On her Twitter account, she wrote, Amala couldn't provide the promised dates due to prior commitments.. @shrutihaasan welcome on board to the 3 team.” Well, now Amala Paul has opened up on the episode by claiming that she did not opted out of 3.

Aishwarya Dhanush's directorial debut 3 is a romantic comedy film. The movie is produced by Dhanush's father Kasthuri Raja. It has Anirudh's music, Velraj's cinematography, and Kota Bhaskar's editing.

India's Longest Train Service - Vivek Express

Guwahati : ’Vivek Express’, a new weekly train covering the country’s longest rail route from Dibrugarh in Assam to Kannyakumari in Tamil Nadu started operating from yesterday.

The train was flagged off from Dibrugarh by Union Minister of State for Development of the North Eastern Region Paban Singh Ghatowar, NF Railway spokesman S Hajong said.

Covering the distance of 4286 km in 82.30 hours, the weekly train will leave Dibrugarh every Saturday at 11.45 pm and reach Kanniyakumari on Wednesday at 10.25 am.

In the return direction, it will leave Kannyakumari every Saturday at 2 pm and reach Dibrugarh on Wednesday at 3.30 am.

Skoda Rapid launched in India

NEW DELHI: Car manufacturer Skoda Auto on Wednesday launched its first c-segment sedan Rapid priced at Rs.6.75 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi).

"We intend to strengthen our presence in the highly competitive C segment in the country with this launch," said Thomas Kuehl, board member and director, sales and marketing, SKODA Auto India.

According to Kuehl, the company expected the car to become a key brand to drive sales.

"India is a very important market for us. There was a gap between our compact car Fabia and the sedan Laura. To fill that gap, we have launched the Rapid in the C segment," Skoda Auto India Marketing Head Tarun Jha said while addressing the media during the launch event.

Talking about the sales expectations, Skoda Auto India Associate Director, Sales and Aftersales, Ashutosh Dixit said, "We are targeting to sell more than 2,000 cars every month. The C segment is likely to grow at above 5 per cent this year."

Aishwarya Rai baby girl

The most awaited delivery this year has taken place. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan delivered a baby girl today at Seven Hills Hospital in Marol, Mumbai.

Announcing this to the world, Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, "IT'S A GIRL!!!!!! :-)))))".

An elated Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl !"

"A dada ji ... Ecstatic !!!!", Amitabh wrote on Twiter.

As soon as the news was out, Twitter has been flooded with wishes for the Bachchan family. Acknowleging the wishes, Amitabh tweeted, "thank you all ..!".

Hospital sources said the delivery was normal and came a few minutes before 10 a.m. The Bachchan and Rai families were present for the momentous occasion.

Aishwarya, 38, developed labour pains around 4 a.m. and was taken to the labour room where the delivery took place after nearly six hours.

The actress is on the fifth floor of the luxury private hospital in Andheri east.

The hospital had booked three rooms on the floor -- one for Aishwarya, the other for the Bachchan family and the third for the Rai family. The entire floor was kept out of bounds for all except the two families.

The hospital has been under tight security for the past three days in expectation of the youngest member of the Bachchan family.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted on Tuesday: "A day of expectation .. but another day ! The Lord has his ways and they are most special .. we wait !!"

Big B had earlier tweeted: "The family gathers together from all over as we wait for the 'arrival' .. Greatest joy for me - a full house and the chahel - pahel."

Based on her numbers, numerologist reveals the personality traits of the new born in Bachchan family and suggests her name should start with K.

"The girl is born on 16 which makes her number 7 (Ketu) person that is ruled by number 2 (moon). Her sun-sign is Scorpio - number 9 ( Mars). Her destiny number is 4 (Rahu) ", says Bhavikk revealing all the numbers associated with the newborn. "Her rashi is Mithun and so her name should ideally start with the alphabet 'k'".

"Her ascendant is Sagittarius (Dhanu) so by personality she should be a sensitive child always in need of love", he adds. Needless to say, she will be pampered by the Bachchans. "I would advice the parents to make her wear gomed(hessonite) after five years of age. As far as her career is concerned, she should be good at creative, media or artistic field like her parents".

"She has a fantastic travel line and should be lucky in terms of property investment. However she should avoid any partnership business", signs off Bhavikk.

Ashwin married to Preethi

Spin sensation Ravichandran Ashwin tied the knot with his childhood friend Preethi Narayanan in a low-key wedding ceremony, attended by only family members and close friends, in Chennai on sunday. Sources in the family said the couple later flew to Kolkata, where Ashwin will resume playing for India on Nov. 14th against West Indies in the second test.

The newly married Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hopes that he will contimue his good show at the Eden Gardens when he comes onto bowl during the second Test match.

His newly-wedded wife Preethi Narayanan has also come along with him. Their marriage reception that was held yesterday had 1000 guests including chairman of national selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth attending the function.

Peter Roebuck dies

Peter Roebuck, the respected cricket commentator and columnist, has died in South Africa.

South African police have released a statement confirming that Roebuck took his own life.

"This office can confirm that an incident occurred last night at about 21.15 at a hotel in Claremont where a 55-year-old British national who worked as an Australian commentator committed suicide," the statement said. "The circumstances surrounding this incident is being conducted. An inquest docket has been opened for investigation."

Roebuck was in South Africa covering Australia's ongoing Test tour, including as a radio commentator for the ABC. He was spoken to by local police on his return to the Southern Sun Hotel Newlands on Saturday night after he had been out to dinner.

A statement issued by the hotel said "an incident that occurred at Southern Sun Newlands" was currently under full police investigation. No further details were given.

In addition to his work in print and radio, Roebuck was also a widely read columnist for ESPNcricinfo, contributing his views in both written and audio form. His last column had expressed cautious optimism about the progress of the Australian team. Sambit Bal, editor of ESPNcricinfo, said Roebuck had always pressed the importance of avoiding nationalism in how the game should be viewed.

"He was a rare global voice in the game," he said. "He used to say that there was too much nationalism in cricket writing. His writing was devoid of any allegiance to nation, team or any player. I cherished his friendship and counsel."

As a man, Roebuck could be prickly, but was always prepared to share his views on the game and on life. In his autobiography, Sometimes I Forgot To Laugh, Roebuck's father described him. "In orthodox spheres," he said, "Peter might be regarded as odd, whereas he is merely obscure and oblique. He is an unconventional loner, with an independent outlook on life, an irreverent sense of humour and sometimes a withering tongue."

Miss International 2011

Miss International 2011, the 51st edition of the Miss International pageant, was held on November 6, 2011 at the Sichuan Opera Theatre, in Chengdu, China. Elizabeth Mosquera of Venezuela crowned her successor, María Fernanda Cornejo of Ecuador, at the final event.
Second and third places in the pageant were Jessica Barboza of Venezuela and Tugsuu Idersaikhan from Mongolia.
Panama and Puerto Rico rounded out the top five, chosen from 67 beauties after a competition that included national costumes, evening gowns and swimwear.
Ankita Shorey was India's entry at Miss International 2011.
Dainne Necio of Philippines landed the Miss International 2011 People’s Choice award.
